Thursday 28th September
The Ladies Bowling Section held their 2023 Prize Giving on Thursday 28th September.
President Colin Simpson and Senior Convenor David Fleming joined the ladies, and after a brisk game of triples followed by afternoon tea, President Colin thanked all the ladies for their contribution to the club. He then congratulated the winners and all who entered the competitions.
Ladies Convenor, Emma Ewart, gave a review of the Section’s very successful 100th anniversary year, which started with gifts from kindred clubs and associations. The ladies then received new tops from the Club as well as name badges and pens. This culminated with a special Centenary game & celebration in August.
Emma added that around 25 new ladies have joined in the past 2 years – almost half of the current membership, and she thanked the more experience members for making them so welcome. She added how pleased she was to see the new ladies joining in the games and entering the competitions.
She thanked the Ladies Committee who have done an exceptional job this year and have worked tirelessly to ensure it was a memorable one.
Elizabeth Marshall was then presented with a bouquet of flowers to mark her Honorary Membership – the first lady in the club’s history to receive this honour. This honour was given to Elizabeth (and husband Ron) by the Club Directors earlier this year in recognition of all their hard work and support to the club over many years.
Colin then presented the trophies and Margaret Maxwell-Yuill gave a vote of thanks.
Finally, we collected £116 on the day from donations and sale of extra home baking for Marie Curie Cancer Charity – thank you all so much for your generosity.
As you can see from the photos the day didn’t end there – music and singing continued until last orders making a great end to the celebrations!
Thanks to everyone who attended. Have a good indoor season and hope to see you all at the quiz and the other events planned for the winter season.
